Richard Schiebel is a world class decoy carver & wildlife artist from Hutchinson, MN • This photo shows Carl & Richard with the decoy and art mural Richard created after his Spectacled Eider hunt to the great Bering Sea in 1991.
Richard “Dick” Schiebel hails from Hutchinson, MN and has been a lifelong waterfowler, artist and world class decoy carver, specializing in diving ducks.
Richard has been both a competitor and a judge, at the Ward Foundation World Championship Decoy Carving Contest in Maryland.
Richard’s lifelong friend Carl Melichar introduced Richard to Sea Duck hunting in the 1980's and in October, 1991, Richard journeyed to St. Lawrence Island in pursuit of Spectacled Eiders. Richard is thought to be one of the very last hunters to pursue the Spectacled Eider before its "threatened" listing on the Endangered Species List in 1993.
Richard is featured in Carl's 2021 book: Spectacled Eiders of the Far North at the Bering Sea.
